5 handy tips to make your shoes more comfortable (Elle)

Shoes and feet come in all shapes and sizes, and one pair is a little easier to fit than the other. These five tips will make your new shoes or high heels a lot more comfortable.

HOW TO MAKE HIGH HEELS MORE COMFORTABLE
Tired of aching feet after an evening in high heels? A strange, but very efficient trick: glue your third and fourth toe (counting from the big toe) together. This little detail will ensure that you survive the evening in high heels almost painlessly.

AVOID SMELLY SHOES
Are you prone to sweaty feet? Then fill your shoes with unused, dry tea bags. The tea will absorb the unpleasant odors and provide your shoes with a fresh aroma. You can also get the smell of sweat out of your shoes by putting them in the freezer overnight. Don't forget to put a plastic bag around them!

FIRST AID FOR SHOES THAT ARE TOO SMALL
Are your shoes just a half size too small? Fortunately, there are many tricks you can use to stretch your shoes:

Use a shoe stretcher, you can adjust how much wider you want them.
Fill two freezer bags with water and stick them in your shoes. Leave everything in the freezer overnight and let your shoes thaw and dry the next morning. Good for half a size more.
Heat can also help: blow with a hair dryer for 30 seconds on places where the shoes pinch. Then take your warm shoes on an outing around the house while wearing extra thick socks.

HOW TO BREAK IN NEW SHOES
Prevent blisters in new shoes by smearing deodorant on the inside of the heel. To prevent rubbing, wear soft socks, especially during the running-in period.

The motto 'prevention is better than cure' applies here too. When buying high shoes, choose platform soles: because they are also raised at the toes, you will walk a lot more comfortably.

SORE FEET
Have these tips come too late and are you already suffering from sore feet, blisters or crushed toes? Then take a warm foot bath with soothing chamomile or refreshing mint. Natural methods like aloe vera on painful wounds can also work wonders. And the ultimate tip: put at least one blister plaster in every handbag.
