Belgium: Amazon in September (FashionUnited)
In September, the American web giant Amazon will open a Belgian webshop. This is according to documents that were leaked via Business Insider. From September, Belgian customers will no longer have to turn to foreign Amazon sites and will also have their own Amazon Prime program, it sounds like.
What the domain name of the webshop will be is unclear at this time. Amazon.be is currently owned by a Belgian insurance company.
Amazon recently opened a new delivery center near Antwerp. At the time, a message on Amazon's website stated that the center would serve "the Belgian customer more efficiently and sustainably. Amazon may have been anticipating the arrival of a Belgian website.
Belgium is one of the few Western European countries that currently does not have an Amazon webshop. The expansion into Belgium is part of a broader plan that also includes webshops in Colombia, Chile, South Africa and Nigeria.
