In 1967, married couple Arrie and Monique De Maeijer founded their first shoe store. Today, their children Els and Tom run five shoe stores, one of which, Monar & Clothes, also specializes in streetwear. Els' daughter Elisa and her boyfriend Stig have also joined the team. Monar is a real family story. In addition to their five successful businesses, Tom & Els also have a number of private labels that they offer in their own outlets and other multi-brand stores: Sofie's Choice, Slaye, O'Saturo, Monar and Fiamme. For the production of these collections, Els is responsible for the designs and Tom is in charge of the operational aspect.
